Though I don’t have much of anything to play as of late besides SFV, I have decided to try and get back into playing around with my Twitch. E3 2016: Why Horizon is still my personal game of the show.

There is always that game that’s presented at E3 that immediately grabs your interest and doesn’t let go. There were so many different opinions on what people considered their “game of the show” after it was all said and done; some people loved seeing a new Spider-Man, some loved seeing the God of War reboot, and some people even loved seeing something as simple as a shoot-em-up game in Gears of War 4. All of those are great choices but my favorite game presented was once again Horizon: Zero Dawn.

While it wasn’t really a reveal like last year, I was blown away by the amount of gameplay and time that Playstation spent on Horizon. For me, I loved seeing the new gameplay and it solidified my pre-order simply because I can’t get over how excited I am for this game. It looks beautiful, it looks like a ton of fun, and I personally love seeing a strong female lead take center stage in my video games. A few years ago, I fell in love with the Tomb Raider reboot simply because, as a huge fan of the Tomb Raider franchise, I felt like that game needed to start fresh. This new lead female protagonist gives me a Lara Croft-ish vibe; while these two games are totally different, I feel like the team at Guerrilla Games drew inspiration from what Square Enix/Crystal Dynamics did with a newly improved Lara Croft.

While Horizon didn’t show off anything groundbreaking and while it’s not necessarily a shocking reveal like the new Resident Evil or Spider-Man, I am much more inclined to buy this game simply because I know what I will be getting into when I purchase Horizon.

E3 2016: The web-slinger swings back into action on PS4

As E3 is underway in LA, many new and exciting video games are getting announced. One of the most surprising, at least to comic fans, came near the end of Sony’s conference.

The video opened with the Insomniac Games logo, and I was already excited. Following it was a tracking shot of a Manhattan street with narration by someone, talking about being a hero who is just “a guy from Queens”. I figured I knew what this was, but then the Marvel logo appeared and confirmed it. For the next minute or so, I…ahem…lost my shit.

Spidey’s back!

Insomniac Games, creators of the Ratchet and Clank franchise and the Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive, are the developers behind this game which is a new partnership between themselves, Marvel and Sony. This new deal follows Activision losing the Marvel license, which they have held since 1998, in 2014.

While there have not been many details released outside of the trailer, it has been confirmed this is a stand alone game and is not a tie in with the upcoming Spider-Man Homecoming film. In fact, this one follows an older, more experienced Peter Parker, trying to balance his crime fighting with his job and life. This is in contrast with the teenage Peter currently in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The game will feature a fully explorable open world for Spidey to swing across, like many of the best Spider-Man titles from the past, along with his iconic acrobatic combat. Reportedly, Marvel’s new directive is to “make epic games”, and from the look of the visuals, combat, traversal and environments shown in the trailer, they are off to a great start.

With Sony publishing this title, it has been confirmed that it will be a Playstation exclusive. Unfortunately, there is no projected release date, or even a window. The only details we have on that topic at all is that the game is  “Currently in development for PS4”.

Hopefully the game arrives sooner rather than later, because I can’t wait to break out the old web shooters and start swinging through NYC once again.

E3 2016: A Fan Favorite Bandicoot is back!

When that classic tune came on during the press conference held by Sony, I felt like a child again.

By now, I’m sure many of you reading this already know exactly what I’m talking. Fan favorite and Sony icon, Crash Bandicoot, is coming back to the PS4 courtesy of three remastered games. Now, I know what many of you are thinking: why not just make a new Crash game? While I don’t have the answer to said question, I feel like Sony and Activision are doing something great for the fans by remastering the original Crash, Cortex Strikes Back, and Warped.

The reason why I think remastering these three games is a step in the right direction is simply because we haven’t seen a proper Crash game in years. While many asked for a brand new Crash, it’s not always that simple and I feel like remastering the original games (which are classics) is a step in the right direction for everyone involved with these games.

I feel like the fans of the original Crash games can help make a huge jump towards future Crash games by supporting these remastered games. While I know many gamers generally do not like remastered versions of old games, I feel like these original Crash games warrant a purchase because it will show Sony that the fans really do care about seeing the famous mascot on their TV screens once again. Sony and Activision have dealt their hand and now it’s our turn to return the favor. I, for one, will be buying these classic games via digital download (or if a physical copy is available) day one with no questions asked. I am beyond excited for the possibility of Crash Bandicoot making a comeback.

Fallout 4: How I feel about the game so far

By now, there is no need for an introduction when it comes to the Fallout series. Fallout 4 is the fourth game in the series and I feel like this game is my favorite Fallout, at this moment in time.

One thing I really like about Fallout 4 is the introduction of voice-acting for the protagonist of the main story. In the older games, if I remember correctly, never had voice-over work. I know it’s a small thing to get excited about but I generally prefer when I can hear the player character speak throughout the story.

Another thing I really like about Fallout 4 is the fact that I can play 4 and not be confused as to what is going on. It’s been a long time since I have played Fallout 3 and I don’t even really remember what happened in that game, to be honest. I know, it sounds awful but 3 just didn’t click with me in comparison to the other games that were released when the PS3 was a thing, as well as the Xbox 360. This is also something that works out for people who want to jump into Fallout 4 but don’t really know the story of the Fallout series.

So far, I love the game and would recommend it to pretty much anybody. There’s a lot to do and I’m not even halfway finished the game yet. When I have the time, I will post my review of Fallout 4 as a whole.

Sure, you can have the full game…by giving us more money for our season pass.

One of the most aggravating things in the gaming industry has been a recurring issue for years and years now. Gone are the days where a consumer could simply go to the store, buy a video game, and have a blast without having to worry about extra material. In today’s gaming industry, a season pass has become part of the norm; why? I have no idea. It’s easy to point out why: it’s all about the money. It’s just one of those things that will not disappear anytime soon.

Back when I was a kid, I could go to the store and buy the latest Crash Bandicoot or Metal Gear Solid without having to worry about getting the full product and experience. In today’s gaming society, that is no longer a luxury that we once had as gamers. Most games nowadays require you to fork over an x-amount of dollars to get the full experience of a popular game franchise. The two biggest games of the Fall, Star Wars: Battlefront and Fallout 4, require their players to buy season passes. I bought both games but said, “no” to the season pass simply because both prices for their season passes are ridiculous. Will I eventually cave and buy both season passes? You know, I just might and it’s more or less because I don’t want to miss out on the experience. Both games have staggering season pass prices at $30 and $50; it’s a terrible thing to deal with because all of that content is actually on the disc but it’s locked through a price wall. I just hope and pray for the day that the gamers take a stand and say “enough is enough” because until such a thing happens, gaming companies are going to keep taking advantage of the consumer and it’s a dang shame for everyone.

Oh, how I miss the ’90s.

UPDATE: I’ve been very busy but I’m back!

As many of you know, I have been off the grid for quite some time but I am going to start blogging again asap. I have been very busy with school and life in general; I haven’t had much time to do much of anything but I will try to update this blog when I have the time.

In other news, I started a twitch account for those interested in that type of thing. My twitch name is mrg1106, so if you’re into that sort of thing, I will try and stream anything you’d like me to stream on top of what I am already playing.

This is just a short update to let you guys know that my blog is still alive and I am still updating it but I ran into technical issues as of late. My computer was broken for a couple of weeks but I’m back on WordPress once again. I will be writing an upcoming post regarding Until Dawn and per usual, I will give you my first impressions of the game and how I am liking it or disliking it.
